Job description

What a Bricklayer does: Lay building materials such as brick, structural tile, concrete cinder,glass,gypsum, and terra cotta lock to construct or repair walls, floors, partitions, arches, chimmneys, fireplaces, and other structures. Bricklayers build attractive and durable structures. They spread, apply, and finish mortar for secure joints. Tile setters apply tile, set marble slabs and repair and polish slabs previously set in buildings. Stone Masons set stone structures such as piers and wall abutments, or lay walks, curbstones and special types of stone masonry.

Working Conditions : Most work is out of doors an generally depends on suitable weather conditions. Modern construction methods along with heater and plastic enclosures stretch the season for bricklaying construction making it less dependent on good weather. Bricklayers are on their feet all day and do considerable stooping and bending. At times, work is done from scaffolding which may be high above the ground.

General Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. 18 years of Age, valid drivers license, alcohol and drug free.

High School Recommended couses: General Math, Geometry

Length of Training: 4 Years
